17.10 be-shallah

[10]

So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and

fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and

Hur went up to the top of the hill.

[11]

And it

came to pass

,

whenMoses held up his hand, that

Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand,

Amalek prevailed.

[12]

But Moses’ hands were

heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under

him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur

stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and

the other on the other side; and his hands were

steady until the going down of the sun.

[13]

And

Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with

the edge of the sword.

[14]

And the Lord said untoMoses: ‘Write

this for a memorial in the book, and rehearse it

in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly blot out the

remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.’

[15]

And Moses built an altar, and called the

name of it

Adonai-nissi.

[16]

And he said: ‘The

hand upon the throne of the Lord: the Lord

will have war with Amalek from generation to

generation.’

of Egypt.

[2]

And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law,

took Zipporah, Moses’ wife, after he had sent her

away,

[3]

and her two sons; of whom the name of

the one was Gershom; for he said: ‘I have been a

stranger in a strange land’;

[4]

and the name of

the other was

b

Eliezer: ‘for the God of my father

was my help, and delivered me from the sword

of Pharaoh.’

[5]

And Jethro, Moses’ father-in-

law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses

into the wilderness where he was encamped, at

the mount of God;

[6]

and he said unto Moses:

‘I thy father-in-law Jethro am coming unto thee,

and thy wife, and her two sons with her.’

[7]

And

Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and

bowed down and kissed him; and they asked

each other of their welfare; and they came into
